So M and I headed off to the Portland Dog Show today which was really, really fun. We are both 2 dog homes and she is looking for her third addition ( which I sooooo picked out but will she listen to me? NO......) Anyhoo, for some reason watching the agility trials made my eyes start to water and I thought I just might burst into tears. Why You ask? Good fucking' question. I asked myself that about a gazillion times while watching. It was just so sad watching those dogs work so hard and miss a pole, or a jump, or a leap...and they have no freaking idea what the hell they are doing and they are so, so sweet and it just breaks my heart. Thankfully I had my BFF there who completely understands my a. love for canines b. inability to not cry and c. hormones so all was good. We are planning to head over there tomorrow on the MAX with our pack, herd, mob, troop, gang, small army group of children where we will pose as "life partners" with our 5 children and get in on the family discount because how dare they discriminate....

Today I also attended my first yoga class in about 3 years. That is not to say I haven't practiced....I just haven't attended a "class". When I last left my practice, I was doing headstands suspended between two chairs which, in addition, was an incredible party trick. This class is an hour and a half, and about 45 minutes into in, I thought there was a very real possibility I could collapse. Seriously. I will say I honored my body and my limits and cowered into assumed child's pose whenever I felt like things were too much. But even that will not help the most certain excruciating pain I will be in tomorrow. Needless to say, I dropped out of Yoga I/II and enrolled my ass into Yoga I as soon as I could.

This weekend we celebrate the birth of my soon to be 38 year old husband. We will do the usual hotel room downtown like we have done for years....Let us all give grandma a HUGE round of applause for agreeing to take over our monsters for a few days !!

Until tomorrow...

This story makes me tremble with anger. It was on our local news where they showed the 5 year old bull mastiff in recovery. I hope they find the mo-fo who did this. And bury him alive.

" A lack of planning on your part does not constitue an emergency on my part"

So yesterday was a snow day.

We all sat around and watched the snow come pouring down. By 7:00 AM is was pretty obvious there would be no school.

But here in Portland, the two largest school districts decided to wait. You know, because, maybe, just maybe, there was a chance the 4 inches of snow on the ground and the 28 degrees on the thermometer was a fluke, and was all going to pass in the next hour or so.

Now, as a parent it is my job to keep my children safe. Of course there are many capable people on the roads and driving for most in snow, is not a big deal. However, watching the news, and watching semi's jack knife and slide back down major highways 6 blocks from my home, I could safely assume, it was not a good idea for me to send my kids to school, whether it be in the safety of my own car, or one of the school buses, that weren't showing up to pick up kids.

I do not need to wait for someone else to make this desicion for me.

But apparently, many parents do. They send their kids to school, against their better judgement. Or better yet, they drop them off at a bus stop and go to work, assuming the bus will make it. They assume that during a surprise winter storm, even with all the media telling them to stay home, despite every single surrounding school district closing, that they will send their kids to school, because someone else is telling them to.

And then they are "outraged" when the schools decide to close. "They have some explaining to do! What were they thinking?!"

What were they thinking?

I hope the parents that did decide to send their children learn a little something and next time decide to make their own decision in regards to their children safety and well being. I didn't need someone else to decide for me if it was a snow day or not. Obviously it was. My car pool mom and I made that decision an hour and a half before our school district did.

It baffles me when people sit around and blame everyone else for their lack of planning and judgement.

So it snowed here today. Alot.

Today school was cancelled and they've cancelled it again for tomorrow. Which means two days stranded, suffocated, trapped, isolated, drowning in snow clothes laundry Home ! Alone! With the Kids ! Baking Cookies !

Which is especially fun after a Three Day Weekend! With a sleepover ! Where they stay up until 4:00 AM !

Needless to say, mommy is a little tired of da' bambinos.

I am hiding upstairs trying to Blog.

Tonight daddy had some wonderful meal planned. He's been planning it for days. A few minutes ago he yelled up to me "SILLY, my love ??"

I said yes dear.

"Uhhhh, the dog just ate about 1/2 pound of raw chicken off the counter, soooooo, we are missing most of dinner."

And I thought GOOD! GREAT! This day is getting better and better ! And I thought those Doritos I ate for lunch would tide me over.

Thank God for American Idol.

Here are some pix...

It's not easy raising the Dalai Lama

My daughter, my daughter, my daughter.

My daughter has always been a champion for the underdog. Always. I could bore you with story after story of her befriending the odd man out, but I won't. Let's just say, she has always been drawn to the odd man out, befriends him or her, and then makes it her mission to defend and stick up for him or her. I have always admired this quality in my daughter, but never really understood why time after time, she is willing to put her own neck and reputation on the line for others. Cause she sure as hell didn't learn that from me.

An example of my dealing with others, last year, she wasn't invited to a sleepover but apparently everyone else in the world was. I was so angry at the situation that my daughter was the only one not invited. I was trying to be grown-up about it but I couldn't help spewing out "Well, I guess we'll remember that when you have your next slumber party". Nice. Dags looked at me and said "First off mom, I don't really care that I wasn't invited. And secondly, that's dumb. Why would I not invite her just because she didn't invite me? That isn't a very good reason to not invite someone." It is so sad how much more mature than me she is.

Anyhoo, she has this friend that she has had since first grade. And since first grade, this boy has been teased, taunted and tormented. The teachers and staff have done what they can, but there is the playground and we all know what happens there. Unless he was personally chaperoned, there is really not getting around the bullies. Last night Dags and I were talking about the situation. I asked her how it continues to go on without the boys getting in trouble.

Here is how our conversation went....

D- " Mom, they do it at recess. Or when the teachers aren't looking. It is so easy to do. I even know how to do it."

M- " Well what does he say back?"

D- " That's the thing. He doesn't know how to stand up for himself. He'll just say soemthing like 'No I am not!'"

M- "Well do you do anything?"

D- " I do. I go up to (one of the kids, who happens to be a very large African American young man who's got about 50 pounds on my daughter) and I am like (with her hands on her hips finger pointing) 'No he isn't...YOU ARE !!" and then all the other boys go 'HAAAAAAAAAA. She told you!' and they think it's funny"

M- " I see. Well what do you think about B? Do you think it's true what they are saying?"

D- " I don't care if it's true or not. Because you know what? That's what I love about him. I admire him so much"

And that right there caused me to burst into tears.

Dags looked at me and said "OMG, are you crying? Why are you crying?" And I said because I can't believe how much I love you and how proud I am of you. And she asked "What for?" because she just doesn't get it.

She doesn't get that all the other 10 year old girls are doing any and everything to make sure they fit in. That they look right, dress right, and play with the right kids. She doesn't realize how beautiful and pure her heart is. She doesn't realize how far she sticks out of the crowd. She doesn't realize that the ability to stand up to the class bully and defend not herself, but another child, one that is different from the other 60 kids, is something most adults wouldn't have the balls to do. She gets teased for choosing to play with her friend, and she honestly and truly doesn't give a shit. Because she would rather associate with someone who is different but has a heart of gold, than with the cool kids who treat wach other like crap, lying to each other, backstabbing, and making fun of other people.

I hope to God that when I grow up, I will have half of her compassion and goodness.

Holy Mother of God

How I love him

That was THE best concert I have ever been to. Better than U2. Better than Sting. Better than seeing him in Vegas. A million times better. He had an ORCHESTRA with him and I was completely fucking blown away. He played for 2 1/2 hours. I have just taken a Lune$ta because I know I will never, ever be able to sleep tonight.

The low lite of the evening was my conversation with the plastic surgeon I was sitting next to. ( I was in the 8th row and they all had on furs and perfect coifed hair....I was in the BIG SPENDER seats, hence my purchasing only one) Anyhoo, he is quite sure Barry has had his nose done becasue if we look through ( My. Expensive.Program) we can see that the tip looks like blah, blah, blah in the 70's and now, as you can clearly see, it doesn't look like blah, blah, blah. And I am thinking "OMG, COPACABANA is being performed LIVE IN FRONT OF YOU complete with crazy VEGAS SHOWGIRLS and we should be DANCING !! Not discussing the beauty of Barry's nose."

Manilow fans just don't get Fanilows.

Holy Mother of God he is amazing. Did I mention that?
