gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd

Everytime I think about blogging, my brain hurts.

Because there is just tooooo much.

Let's see, where to begin.....

Well, there was the big wind storm earlier this month which knocked down our tree. And our back fence.

We had a fence guy come and give us a quote for a new fence. Problem is, it's not the fence's fault. Or ours. Apparently our neighbors retaining wall is rotten and their backyard is falling into our backyard. We could build a new fence. But it will fall. So we need to get two backyard neighbors to agree to replace their retaining wall so we can build a new fence. And in the mean time, my dog is running through both of their yards. I am hoping this encourages them to replace the damned wall. Now.

A few days later, we had our ducts cleaned as well as our chimney. The folks who did the work ended up staying about 2 hours longer than they were supposed to as the chimney needed extra work. This resulted in having the heat off for about 6 hours. When it was like 28 degrees out. They turned on the heat when they were finished. I handed them a check for $600 some dollars. I start to get ready to leave and I notice how very cold it is. I check the thermostat, the heater "says" it's on, however no heat is coming out. I think this is weird.....I call B who says to leave it until he gets home.

Same day, our mastiff's tumor has exploded and she needs to go to the vet. I take her in and get an estimate of about $1000. I say something along the lines of "omfg you have to be kidding me" and he assures me no, he in fact is not kidding at all. I leave the vet and the dog because at ths point it is night time and by the time it takes me to get her 12 year old butt back in the car, back home, back out of the car and into the house, it will be morning and time to turn around and bring her back in for surgery.

So I go home. To a Very Cold House. B gets home checks eveything out, can't seem to find the problem. We call the duct people who responded with something along the lines of " Was it on when we left?" B says yes. They say " Well, we aren't responsible.....it was working when we left."

And I cry about how much money I have lost in one day.

Next day we need to get more bids. To spend more money.

First guy....

Our furnace is 45 years old which is apparently "amazing" and needs to be replaced.

Ka-ching

So the first bid we get is around $10,000.....and that's not including AC.

I curl up in a fetal position and cry.

We get more bids. We find guys we like and a week later, a very very cold week later, work begins. Work that is supposed to take a day. Three days later work is finished. And I write another, very very large check.

And I nurse my 12 year old mastiff with 40 staples in her back, back to health.

And I take care of my grandfather who is slipping away, a little more every day.

Oh yeah, and then I throw Christmas in there. And Oh Shit Dagny, it's your birthday. Uhhhhh.......

And seriously, that's just all the big stuff. It was a really fucked up three week period.

I had to miss a field trip due to having workers at my house for days on end. And I actually started crying. WTH? Seriously. I burst into tears. And at one point, my gas light went on, and I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown.

Who does that?

Crazy people. That's who.

So, now that THAT is all behind us.....hopefully we can get back on track both mentally and physically and get some shit done.

December 03, 2007

All is well here.

We survived the first weekend of December. The kids had today off school so we stayed in, made homemade vegetable soup and read.....all day long. There was a big fight over the remote first thing this morning, so they lost "anything with a screen" for the rest the day. So we had a read-in :)

Last weekend was " Scouting For Food" which Jack thought was the most fun ever. Snow flakes flurried around the boys as they ran from house to house collecting the bags they had distributed earlier in the week. And if the day couldn't get any better, the pack all met up at the end and there were DONUTS. Jack could not have asked for more....snow, donuts and boyscouts all in one day. Dagny's BFF came over later in the day and spent the afternoon with us. The three of us hit the pet store, but mostly the girls just hung out and relaxed. The kids decorated the Christmas tree and I am proud to say that I did not move or relocate one ornament. It is "perfect" just the way they did it. Please remember that when you see it *yikes*

Sunday we didn't do alot...D and I went and saw great grandpa, the boys went grocery shopping and picked up the house. Brian made a wonderful dinner and we rented Evan Almighty ( 4 thumbs up) The Amazing Race, and then hit the hay and spent a sleepless night listening to the 70 mph winds rip apart our neighborhood.

What this weekends storm did to our front yard

It has been exactly a year since the best Christmas present ever showed up....

Here are some pictures of her, Barkley, and the way we spent our first weekend of December last year...
